System Access Fundamentals (SAFE) Erector Training

The System Access Fundamentals (SAFE) Erector course is a 5-day training program designed for non-scaffolders who require the ADDED SKILL to erect, inspect, modify and dismantle basic industrial “system” scaffolds for their own access and maintenance operations. This course is designed to comply with local provincial/territorial regulations and the national CSA Z797 and S269 Scaffolding Standards.

What are Industrial System Scaffolds?

System Scaffolds are by far the most common types of access structures on North American industrial worksites. They are utilized for their strength, flexibility, and compatibility with tube & coupler components. Popular brands of system scaffolds are EIW-Total System Scaffold, Safway SafLock, Aluma SureLock, Layher All-Round, AT-PAC Ringlock and Proscaff.

What are the learning outcomes?

Upon successful completion of both the theory and practical instruction, SAFE Erector trainees will be able to erect, inspect and modify industrial system access platforms UP TO 6 METERS in height and UP TO 50 PSF (MEDIUM DUTY) for their own operations with features including:

  • Independent Scaffolds (3:1 Height to Base Ratio)
  • Dependent Scaffolds featuring Basic Ties
  • Cantilevered Scaffolds using System Brackets
  • Scaffold Access Systems (Ladders, stairs, ramps, direct access, , emergency egress requirements, etc)
  • Guardrail Fall Protection Systems
  • Falling Object Protection & Prevention Systems
  • Daily/Pre-shift Inspection of Same
  • Post, Ledger, and Platform LOAD CALCULATIONS to establish a Duty Rating in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions
  • Perform minor modification procedures with site approval (i.e. temporary removal of the guardrail for access, adjusting bracing, etc.)
