SCAFFOLDING BEST PRACTICE #72 – Scaffold Public Safety
Simple compliance with OH&S Scaffolding Regulations IS NOT always sufficient to ensure safety around scaffolds erected in public areas. Public safety for scaffolds requires an even HIGHER DUTY OF CARE, including careful and deliberate protections for: sharp edges, trip hazards, falling objects/debris/dust, controlled access, electrical hazards, visibility, pedestrian accessibility and notifications/signage. Remember: Site workers will have PPE, training, experience and supervision to protect them – whereas the public has NONE of this!
