SCAFFOLDING BEST PRACTICE #23 – Eccentric Loading
Cantilevers and side brackets create forces on the scaffold OUTSIDE the main structure called “eccentric loads”. These forces can cause the scaffold to overturn, separate, or bend in a manner that can compromise the structure. For these reasons, all eccentric loads must be considered, calculated, and contained (with a safety factor) by a stabilizing means such as scaffold ties, buttresses or counterweights.
